History: Designed in late 1991, the Mikoyan MiG-34 "Super Fulcrum" was meant as a purely export aircraft. The A through H versions all sat one pilot and the K version sat two (being meant as a trainer). Air forces that use(d) the MiG-34 are: Tunisia (seen here), Sudan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Ukraine, and more. The aircraft was reliable, sturdy, and safe. The onboard computers are sophisticated enough to save the aircraft (and pilot) at altitudes lower than fifty feet above the ground/sea. The MiG-34 was also equipped with an arrestor hook, although only a few countries actually used it for naval operations. The MiG-34 could also be equipped with torpedoes, cruise missiles, 1,000 pound bombs, and more. The standard version of the aircraft, simply called the MiG-34, had ceramic armor plating (like the kind used on an M1 Abrams MBT) surrounding the cockpit to boost pilot survival rates. And, if needed, the ejector seats had a secondary charge in dire situations (like the pilot ejected too close to the ground to fully the deploy the parachute). The aircraft is still in use with many countries today.
