Medium Tank, M3 Grant
The Medium Tank, M3, named Lee in British service was an WWII medium tank design developed by the US Army as an interim design, replacing the M2 medium tanks, before the introduction of the M4 Sherman. The M3 Lee had a 75mm gun in a sponson on the side, and a 37mm gun in an offset turret, and a riveted construction, all unfavourable characteristics, which led to the tank unable to take a hull-down position. The M3 Grant was a British modification, replacing the Lee pattern turret with a Grant pattern turret, which moved the radio from the hull to the turret, allowing the commander full control of communication, and thickened armour.
This build was supposed to have a track system and accurate suspension for the road wheels, however various issues stopped that from going ahead and stagnated work for four months.
