SS Columbia, Designed in 1911, redesigned April of 1912, keel laid down 1914, and completed in 1920, she came just in time to meet the economic boom of the 20s! The Prides of the the United States Lines, and America's Trans-Atlantic dream of Monopoly, the Columbia was the only real 4 stacker project for the United States. Along with her sisters America and United States, Columbia would run from New York City, to Halifax, then to Queenstown, Southampton, Cherbourg, and back to New York City. the Tri-Fecta was a completed dream until 1939. In 1939, the three would be relegated to simple cruises from New York to Panama. In 1941, when pearl harbour was attacked, Columbia and her sister America were in New York while United States was in Panama. United States rushed to New York as America and Columhia were stripped of their fixtures and replaced with standard grey bunks. The trio would sailed from New York to North Africa for the North African Campaign. The three would be quickly struck to two in a convoy raid in July 1942, leaving America out of action for a month just long enough to miss out on Operation Pedestal. In January 1945, The Trio were pulled into the pacific as Japan was seen as the last villain. On April 7th, just minutes after Yamato was sunk, Columbia, and United States were rocked by Kamikaze, specifically one D3A1 Val a piece. Whilst Columbia was relatively unharmed, United States would capsize 45 degrees

Description Continued: and go down by the head. After sinking for an hour and 52 minutes, United States would go down at 14:02. After the war, Columbia and America were renamed New York and Manhattan respectively. In 1946, New York was sold to a scrap yard in Jarrow, England. In 1950, New York was completely gone, her pre 1941 fittings having been auctioned off. Manhattan would be put in ownership hell, like the SS United States (1950) 19 years later. Finally, after 1953, the Manhattan was offered to Walt Disney as a floating hotel. The deal fell through when Walt Disney stated he'd prefer the Queen Mary when/if it went to auction. In 1969, Manhattan was sold to Long Beach, New York. United States was honoured by the construction of SS United States (1950), who would later be put in ownership hell until 2023. To this day, you can still admire Manhattan, later renamed back to America in 2001, in her 1925 paint scheme.
