Swan class CAS

60 DZ1987  3.4 years ago

The Swan is the Knights Black Eagle Close Air support aircraft and is the first in the world to feature a trim-flap system to help maintain level altitude.

It features a large amount of countermeasures across the rear, a single Hover Engine embedded into the rear, fed by an intricate intake hidden within the forward swept wings that carry the autocannons that the swan is famous for.
And is also capable of carrying any armament smaller than a B-50.
It also has a unique "all wheel turn" which helps it turn faster, especially useful for carrier operations.

The Swan was to replace the old Eagle 1, which lost its primary purpose when the Eagle 2 was introduced, but was still capable of performing close air support, though it was was hardly effective. Still, many were grateful to finally be rid of the 70 year old plane, and even further delighted with the wonderful performance of the Swan. With the way it was designed, it is also possible to dogfight using the Swan, but is hardly fit for that purpose. Since it can go mach 1, Pilots were trained to make their first pass at full speed, as to both be undetected by ear, and shatter any survivor's ears once it made the pass.
Afterwards, it would do a few low speed passes, till the enemy has been destroyed.

It's reinforced Cartromere plating makes it near impervious to small arms fire, although the wings are made of the standard material. Cartromere meanwhile is a metal found in damp areas, boasting a composition that is stronger than AC material, the standard material for aircraft, but also heavier. It can't be easily shaped, and has a melting point of 3758 degrees C. Should one perfect handling Cartromere, they'll have an alloy twice as durable as steel.

Due to its rather unique design, the Swan has problems with elevated surfaces. Other problems include, naturally, maintaining the Hover Engine, and the intake. Otherwise, the Swan is a perfectly capable ground strike aircraft.
