McDonnell Douglas MD-80 is a twin-engine airliner manufactured by McDonnell Douglas. The first flight of the MD-80 took place on October 18, 1979. The MD 80 series is a new generation of the company's older aircraft, the McDonnell Douglas DC-9. These planes are very similar to the Boeing MD-90 family. For this reason, they are also called DC-9 Super 80.
