The Ohio-class nuclear ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) are a key component of the United States' strategic nuclear deterrent. Designed and built by the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics, these submarines are named after the state of Ohio and were first commissioned in the 1980s.

The Ohio-class submarines are equipped with Trident II (D5) submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), which form the core of their strategic offensive capabilities. The Trident II (D5) is a highly advanced, three-stage, solid-fueled ballistic missile designed to deliver nuclear warheads with great precision and reliability.

    Features and Capabilities:

    1. Missile System: The Trident II (D5) missiles are launched from four vertical launch system (VLS) tubes located in each of the Ohio-class submarines' missile compartments. Each submarine can carry up to 20 Trident II missiles. The missiles have a range of approximately 4,000 nautical miles and can be equipped with multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), allowing each missile to carry up to 12 warheads. This provides a high level of flexibility and ensures that even if a significant portion of the submarine force were to be neutralized, a sufficient number of warheads would remain operational to maintain a credible deterrent.

    2. Stealth and Survivability: Ohio-class SSBNs are designed with a focus on stealth and survivability. Their hulls are made from high-strength steel, and the submarines are engineered to reduce their acoustic signature, making them
