In 1959, five A-1 Skyraiders from the US were shipped to Denmark for research and liscense-building purposes. In 1962, the first production-ready LD-2 Ladon (Python) was finished. A special squadron, FS-889 was created to facilitate the new aircraft. In early August, 1966, FS-889 was deployed to the border of Denmark. The airplane served with Denmark until 1997, when the LD-9M was finally retired from service and reassigned to airshows and museums.
