History

The conflict has seen a resurgence of antiquated machines. By combining an old Soviet chassis, the MT-LB and the MT-12 Rapira 100 mm anti-tank gun, Ukraine has launched a new self-propelled anti-tank gun system, the MT-LB-12. In August 2022, images on social networks showed a new development of a mobile artillery system based on the multi-purpose tracked armored vehicle MT-LB from the Soviet era.

The MT-LB-12 is simply a solution to the shortage of military equipment and, more specifically, mobile artillery systems. The MT-12 Rapira 100 mm anti-tank gun is mounted on the roof of the MT-LB, a multi-purpose tracked armored vehicle designed at the Kharkov Tractor Plant in Ukraine in the early 1960s. The MT-LB is one of the most popular multirole tracked armored vehicle used in the world. It was also developed into many variations for different roles.
