this aircraft was meant to test the swept wing design for the US Navy, another company who embraced the design was Grumman with thier modified F4F Wildcat, The L-39 was developed from two surplus Bell P-63 aircobras, after many tests with the L-39 a platform change with the aircraft caused the center of lift to move foward causing the aircraft to violently climb, after this mistake the L-39 would be grounded for 3 years before finally being scrapped on December 1949
