History
The Gloster Meteor was the first British jet fighter and the first to enter service with the Allies of World War II. The development of the Meteor relied heavily on its innovative turbojet engines, developed by Sir Frank Whittle and his company, Power Jets Ltd. Development of the aircraft began in 1940, but work on the engines had already started in 1936. The Meteor It made its first flight in 1943 and began operating on July 27, 1944 with the 616th Squadron of the Royal Air Force (RAF).
