On the 12th of June 1992 a lone B-23 was found near the shores of Iwo Jima, it was badly corroded by the sea water and would need alot of work and money to fully restore it. When a restoration company heard about the plane they were quick to start a campaign to raise money for the restoration of the peice of history.
Here's some history of the plane.
The B-23 is a bomber built in 1942. After the attacks on pearl harbour the USAF was looking for a bomber to bomb the japanese so boeing built the B-23 to launch a counter attack on japan. This plane uses auto-turrets which were futuristic for its time but the turrets were later replaced with manned turrets after several faliures with the turrets getting stuck and causing multiple aircraft to be destroyed.
