    A ship is essentially just a big metal box, so it needs ventilation the same as any building does. Especially when you consider that the lower decks contained a multitude of boilers, a couple of enormous steam turbines, and hundreds of miles of pipes pumping all these hot gases around. That heat needs to go somewhere!
