YALE Mk II - Multirole Fighter
An advanced two seat medium fighter designed for both missile and gun attacks capable of target interception as well as conventional dogfights.
Credits:
The YALE (named for a little-known heraldic beastie with the antlers and body of a ibex, the bead of a wild boar, and the tail of an elephant. the beast has a coat of fine, pale fur covered all over with numerous multicolored spots.) is a medium weight multirole fighter/bomber consistent in design with the other planes of the Archon Chancellery. Of course, all the actual modifications are the products of you wonderful folk here on SimplePlanes--I have neither the capacity nor the knowledge to do those myself. I would specifically like to thank Seme4ka for the wonderful micro-missiles that are the basis of my Fang and Talon missiles batteries, dfsjoe for the weightless mega-fuel tank that I have reinterpreted as the Umbra Reactor, and Spefyjerbf for the Generation Gamma HevGun Mx 1 which has become my Magnetar Rail Gun, as well as many other amazing weapons.
Background Story:
Around the beginning of the seventh cycle of the XIX Dynasty, the High Command commissioned the Archon Chancellery to design and build a smaller, more generalized version of the successful PERYTON Fighter/bomber. Initially designated as an air superiority fighter, the YALE was to be a mid-sized, two-person aircraft designed with the air-to-air combat role in mind. The Chancellery utilized a modified variant of the PERYTON's lexisting lifting body concept, incorporating the SERAPHIM multi-wing architecture together with a blended wing/body design. The Chancellery included the now standard CONSTELLATION integrated engine system, powered by the UMBRA dark energy reactor giving the new plane virtually unlimited range together with VTOL and high mach dash capabilities. The resulting aircraft was fast (nearly Mach 4), maneuverable, and quite heavily armed The PERYTON features several advanced weapons systems, chief among which is the MAGNATAR, a spinal mounted Heavy Gauss Rifle that throws red-hot high density slugs. Other weapons include: twelve FANG air-to-air missiles and twelve TALON air-to-ground missiles; a pair of weapons pods located mid- wing, each containing a STAR BURST and a STAR FIRE laser weapons system; the forward close-in weapons pods house a pair of STAR STREAM high capacity wide beam laser cannons which also serve to further energize the Magnatron's slugs while in flight. An articulated METEOR SWARM cannon that is optimized for both high speed ground assault strafing runs, as well as close-in air defense. And finally, a pair STAR SPIKE needle laser that can be used for light defense or targeting.
Activation Groups:
1 - Engages the CONSTELLATION integrated engine system, which includes an enhanced gyro-stabilization unit (on whenever AG-1 is active), the QUANTUM DRIVE indirect thrust/boost engine (VTOL bar up), and the anti-gravity GRAVITON VTOL motor (VTOL bar down).
2 - Activates the twin STAR STREAM high capacity Laser Cannons.
3 - Engages the forward MAGNETAR spinal mount, a Heavy Gauss Rifle that throws molten high density slugs.
4 - Activates the FANG advanced AA missile system (Interceptor based).
5 - Activates the TALON advanced AG missile system (Cleaver based).
6 - Activates the STAR FIRE dual beam laser cannons and the STAR BURST stern-chaser pulse cannons.
7 - Deploys and activates the articulated (via the VTOL controller) METEOR SWARM cannon.
8 - disconnects the STAR SPIKE auxiliary laser guns and the main UMBRA reactor, deactivating all active sensors (shown by extinguishing the various engine and running lights).
