Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29SMT Fulcrum-C
This is an extreme rework of my old MiG-29SMT, A Major overhaul of the design, historically accurate features, etc, So any positive feedback would be appreciated

The MiG-29SMT is a modernized variant of the MiG-29 "Fulcrum," a fourth-generation multirole fighter originally developed by the Soviet Union in the late 1970s. The SMT (State-of-the-art Modernization) upgrade package was introduced in the late 1990s to enhance the MiG-29’s operational capabilities, extend its service life, and enable it to compete with more advanced, multirole fighter aircraft in the modern battlefield.
One of the most significant updates in the MiG-29SMT is the modernization of its avionics and electronic systems. The fighter features the Zhuk-ME radar, a powerful phased-array radar that vastly improves target detection, tracking range, and targeting precision, especially in complex environments. The Zhuk-ME allows the MiG-29SMT to engage multiple air and ground targets simultaneously and enhances its ability to operate in both day and night conditions, as well as under all weather scenarios. This radar system significantly increases the fighter’s effectiveness in combat, particularly in air-to-air engagements and precision-guided strike missions.
The cockpit of the MiG-29SMT has also been upgraded with digital avionics, a new glass cockpit, and multifunctional displays, improving the pilot’s situational awareness and reducing workload during operations. The updated systems allow for easier integration with modern air defense and command-and-control networks, ensuring the MiG-29SMT remains compatible with contemporary air force operations. This includes the integration of new targeting pods and data-link systems, which enhance its precision in delivering both air-to-ground and air-to-air munitions.
In terms of weaponry, the MiG-29SMT can carry a wider range of air-to-air and air-to-ground ordnance compared to earlier versions of the MiG-29. The aircraft is equipped with hardpoints for a variety of weapons, including the R-77 medium-range air-to-air missile, the R-73 short-range missile, and an array of guided bombs, rockets, and precision strike munitions. This makes the MiG-29SMT a true multirole fighter, capable of engaging a broad spectrum of targets from air superiority missions to close air support and strike operations against ground targets.
Powering the MiG-29SMT are upgraded RD-33 series engines, which offer improved fuel efficiency and greater thrust. This allows for enhanced range, endurance, and overall performance, enabling the aircraft to operate more effectively over longer distances and at higher speeds. The increased fuel capacity and greater operational range also make the MiG-29SMT more suitable for long-range missions, reducing the reliance on aerial refueling and giving it greater operational flexibility.
Structural upgrades were also incorporated into the MiG-29SMT, including reinforcements to allow for a greater weapons payload and improved durability. These modifications enable the aircraft to carry a heavier assortment of bombs, missiles, and fuel tanks, while also improving the aircraft’s resilience in combat situations. The MiG-29SMT is capable of carrying up to 4,000 kg of weapons and can operate from shorter airstrips or more austere environments, making it adaptable for a variety of operational theaters.
The MiG-29SMT is equipped with advanced electronic warfare (EW) capabilities, including improved jamming systems, which help it evade enemy radar and missile threats. This increases the aircraft’s survivability in contested environments, as it can better defend itself against both radar-guided and infrared-guided threats. These features are particularly valuable when the MiG-29SMT is operating in hostile, contested airspace where the risk of interception is high.
With these extensive upgrades, the MiG-29SMT has become a highly capable multirole fighter, capable of fulfilling a variety of missions, including air superiority, ground attack, reconnaissance, and close air support. The MiG-29SMT is still in service with several air forces and remains a potent and cost-effective fighter for countries looking for a versatile aircraft without the expense of more advanced fifth-generation jets.
In terms of operational use, the MiG-29SMT has demonstrated its versatility in combat scenarios, being able to carry out both high-speed intercepts and low-level ground attack missions. Its ability to engage both aerial and ground targets, combined with its enhanced sensors and weapons load, makes the MiG-29SMT an all-around effective asset for modern air forces, particularly those that require a balance between cost, performance, and operational flexibility.
Overall, the MiG-29SMT is a clear demonstration of how older platforms can be revitalized with modern technology, giving them new life and extending their relevance in the context of contemporary aerial warfare.
