Curtiss YP-37
First of all, the real one's retracts twist backwards like a corsair... But we dont have that kind of gear. (That could be a new post.) as always like the my xp-48 and xp-50, the tail took a long time and unfortunatley, it has no yaw control. It Flies better at about 150 mph and can reach speeds a little bit over 300, like the real one. Okay, a little history... The development of aircraft engines was going at a fast pace and its predasessor, the P-36, was proving itself insofar as munuverability was concerned, but its contemporarieswere outpreforming it with their higher speeds. The latest foreign-built fighters were powered with slim inline engines, and were reaching speeds of well over 300 mph. The U.S. Army's intrest in developing a suitable inline engine for a new fighters was indicated by the fact that they invested $500,000 into the development of the Allison V-1710 engine. Attempting to "keep their foot in the door" for the next round of fighter contracts, Curtiss constructed the YP-37 by addapting the P-36 airframe to the allison engine.
