Background:
While the F-50 performed exceptionally well in the 1957 Civil War, the growing threat of Communism and Soviet technology required the nation to continue to push its aerospace technology to new limits. Thus in late 1959, indigenous designers, with consultation from NATO contractors, began development of the F-60 Clipper. Powered by two, improved engines and boasting new weapons technology and state of the art information systems, the F-60 was truly a pioneer of its time by the time it was introduced in early 1962. It was capable of carrying fully radar-guided missiles, a first for any indigenously developed fighter. Over the next decade and a half, it would prove to be an effective fighter/interceptor.
