The Sukhoi Su-35 ( Russian : ????? ??-35 , NATO reporting name : Flanker-E ), [ 9 ] initially known as the Su-27M , is a single-seat, twin-engine multirole fighter developed by the Russian company Sukhoi as a derivative of the Su-27 air superiority fighter . It began to be developed in the 1980s, when Sukhoi was looking to improve its Su-27 high-performance fighter. The resulting Su-35 incorporated aerodynamic improvements that provide greater maneuverability, avionicsvastly improved, longer range, and more powerful engines. The first prototype , converted from a serial production Su-27, made its maiden flight in June 1988. The Su-35 was further developed with the Su-37 technology demonstrator , in which thrust vectoring , and the Su-35BM, classified as a generation 4++ fighter by its manufacturer. This new version, which incorporated the steerable nozzles, entered serial production in 2010 under the name Su-35S for the Russian Air Force . Some Su-35s are being used by the Russkiye Vityazi aerobatic demonstration team. Unofficially, the Su-35 is referred to as a Super Flanker.
