Venture Aeronautics Project A700 "Stratus"

27.8k TheFlightGuySP  2.3 years ago

This aircraft was designed to use updrafts to climb higher! For more information about how to use updrafts, click here.

Overview: the A700 "Stratus" is an experimental semi-tailless sailplane, designed to study the flight characteristics and performance of tailless sailplane designs. Aside from its experimental purpose, it is also rated for general aviation/civilian purposes. The aircraft receives pitch control through flap-like control surfaces on the trailing edge of the aircraft's main wings, which increase or decrease lift to create pitch response.

FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS

Maximum Airspeed (TAS): 150mph, 241kph, 130knots.
Maximum Altitude (UNPRESSURIZED): 12,500ft, 3,810m.
Takeoff Airspeed (IAS): ~50mph, ~81kph, ~44knots. (Use SetWindSpeed 0 2 0 for takeoff and climb phase. Use SetWindSpeed 0 5 0 for greater rate of climb after takeoff.)
Landing Airspeed (IAS): ~40mph, ~64kph, ~35knots. (Use SetWindSpeed 0 0 0 for landing.)
Controls: Trim: Elevator Trim. Activate1: Launcher Cart Detachment. Throttle: Launcher Cart Throttle.

NOTES

Rudder input may be helpful while turning at low speeds to counteract adverse yaw movements. The glider cart tends to drift during takeoff, which can be counteracted by yawing in the direction that the cart is drifting. The aircraft is designed to land with the nose resting on the ground.
