Hey everyone. Zerø here from simpleplanes.com. And in this SimplePlanes post, I present to you: The Flogger.

Swing wing time!

Also, this was an entry for Yourlocalhuman's War Challenge II.

Introduction:

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23MF Flogger-B is a Soviet built air superiority aircraft, intended for replacing the aging MiG-21s. This Flogger, much like the Krakabloan Frogfoot, was modified to carry Wrightian and Krakabloan munitions.

History:

The MiG-23's predecessor, the MiG-21, was a capable aircraft. It was fast, maneuverable, and had a very decent performance. However, it was outdated at the time. The radar was primitive, it was short ranged, and it's loadout... Eh. Not so much.
The Soviets once again needed a new Air Superiority aircraft, it's now or never. Thus, work for a replacement of the MiG-21 began in early 1960.
The Air Force wanted the aircraft to be fast, capable of carrying BVR (Beyond-Visual-Range) missiles, and overall better handling than the MiG-21. They also wanted the new aircraft to have much more shorter take-off run. Maneuverability was not an urgent requirement. These requirements led Mikoyan into two ideas: Lift Jets and Variable-Geometry Wings (or Swing Wings) which had been developed by TsAGI.
The first prototype used a tailed delta configuration, similar to that of the MiG-21, but lift jets are added. The idea seemed logical at the time. However, it quickly became apparent that the lift jets isn't practical, as it would just be an added weight when airborne. This led to Mikoyan's second option: the Swing wing configuration. It was much more promising than the lift jets.
And after a long test of flight, the design was finally accepted into production.

During the Wright-Snowstone war, the Krakabloan forces sought to help the Wrightian forces by aiding their war efforts. However, like the Su-25Ks that they have, they lacked munitions and equipments to be able to repair their MiG-23s. And they needed an escort to protect their Su-25Ks, now or never. Thus, the modification of the MiG-23MFs and Su-25Ks begun.

Update on the Wright-Snowstone War, affecting the modified MiG-23MFs:

1: Occupation of Krakabloa.
Krakabloa was invaded, and occupied by Snowstone. The MiG-23MFs have been captured and brought by the Snowstone forces. Luckily, 2 MiG-23MFs was sent to Wright to have the work split between the two, and modify the MiG-23MFs.

1.1: Modification #1.
A single MiG-23MF has been able to be modified to carry Wrightian munitions.

1.2: Modification #2.
The second MiG-23MF has been able to be equipped with the new weaponry. However, due to technical problems, it will need more time before it can be completed.

2: Operation Krakabloa.
As you might now, Krakabloa has been invaded and occupied. However, Wrightian forces have deployed everything they had and tried to liberate Krakabloa. Currently 40% of Krakabloa has been liberated from the Snowstone forces.

2.1: What's currently happening.
As much as 6 MiG-23MFs, and 8 Su-25Ks are left behind to be claimed back by Wrightian and liberated Krakabloan forces. These crafts have not yet been modified though, and they'll most likely will be modified to strengthen our forces.

These things are so cool in real life. Shame it was such an awful aircraft.

You've done a good job recreating it in game. Nice work.
