Designed in at a time when submarines couldn’t launch nuclear missiles. The narwhale was designed to be a carrier capable strategic bomber that could carry nuclear weapons. While it ultimately wouldn’t be used in this role, it would be used as a way to deter enemy fleets and perform conventional bombing. with their considerable payload and ability to carry heavy weapons. It would have a long service life as it would transition between different roles, but would ultimately be replace by more capable strike aircraft.
