TERRAM A-HIKER E.R.

13.7k airlinerbuilder  5 months ago

Hello everyone! after many delays here's my first ever Rally Car.
I have teased this thing many times but this month has been a nightmare in terms of school work and i never found the time to go ahead and post it.
But i finally only have a week left until the end so here it is!

-What is this?
It's a "Hybrid" powered Rally car based on the normal Terram A-Hiker i already posted about 2 months ago. Why make it a hybrid instead of keeping it as a pure EV? Because i needed the in game car engine to get a decent acceleration and better stability off road, so i fused the systems putting a tiny 40HP engine that can be controlled with throttle (only when sport mode is on) and the regular EV powertrain controllable with Pitch.
As for the other modifications outside of the spoilers and some design elements not much has changed, the suspension has been left unchanged and weight rose to 1100 kg only because of the new engine. As for the rest it might as well be just a regular A-Hiker with a sportier look.

-Controls

All of the controls are in the in-game description.

-Lore
Let's start with a recap, Terram had a hit on their hands with the A-Hiker after the long journey that was its development. But the only version that was built for mass adoption was an EV, the blueprints that the design team recovered also presented a Hybrid version that used a tiny petrol engine as a range extender to enhance the performance of the electric motors.
This version was dropped since Giat never really commercialized petrol powered cars for a wide public since they were born to democratise EVs, this would mean a high price that would not suite such a compact vehicle. But the system proposed by the blueprints was interesting so Terram engineers wondered how they could get it to production and that's where rally racing gets into the scene.
The company had recently launched a rally division, it was chosen to use the Terram brand instead of Phonix since they had more experience working on off-roaders giving them and advantage in the field.
They needed a car to use for the upcoming IRC (International Rally Competition) where car companies from all over the world raced in different terrain rappresenting each country and the A-Hiker was chosen for it's compact size and simple design but the powertrain had to be upgraded.
So it was decided to try developing the Hybrid version mostly to make the vehicle gain popularity among enthusiasts but also to provide better performance at high speed.
The first tests were taken on abandoned racetracks in secret comparing the test car with vehicles that previously partecipated in the same competition and results were really positive with the car having an average 30 seconds advantage on every track. It wasn't really the most comfortable ride and due to it's gigantic spoiler it tended to jump really easily but it didn't matter, Terram unveiled the car to the public 1 month before the competition going on to winning most stages.
