SSBN Columbia VTOL

50.4k Stingray  6.7 years ago

Sea operations are where the SSBN Columbia (not officially built, yet) performs best: engage all Jundroo fleets. You will always win a Jundroo sea-battle conflict. (All weapons mounted internally, of course.) On the sea, Throttle controls speed, Roll controls steering. Slide Vtol full Up to go Verticle, slide Vtol bar back to center for normal in-line airflight or sea patrols.

  1. Primary weapon: A Laser Gun courtesy of @SledDriver - effective range of 10 miles at sea-level -> use the trim slider bar to adjust the up/down targeting of the Laser Gun.

  2. Armed with 8 Jundroo functional (internal) long range Cleaver missiles, requiring standard radar lock-on plus the missile icon button to launch. 10 mile target contact range.

  3. Armed with 30 Jundroo functional (internal) short range Inferno missiles. After radar lock-on: use ACT groups 5, 6, 7 each release 10 Infernos simultaneously. These simultaneuos bursts will defeat any Jundroo Carrier. Contact range for these are 4.3 miles.

Background notes: - AG 8 (gyro) should remain enabled.
- This model is 0-to-140 mph at sea attack speed, and can easily out-maneuver Jundroo destroyers that guard the USS Beast and USS Tiny II.

  • SSBN Columbia-Class is the replacement for the US Navy's Ohio-Class SSBN fleet.

  • Launch model on land or sea. Roll, pitch, use Throttle like standard aircraft. Cruise between Wright and Murphy at 900 mph, airborne.

  • Landing in water is fairly easy, when you keep the model level at touchdown, 200-300 mph.

Oh, I know anything can be made to fly in SP. I meant that there isn't much for a submarine-as-submarine to do in SP. Nice build, though it could use some missile tubes with operational hatches.

Thanks for testing, this is agile on the water, but wallows like a flying pig when airborne. Yet, can fly in a simi-straight line and land on water anywhere. @SledDriver

OK, my next submarine may be styled like a Los-Angeles-Class attack model. (This means no guns, no control tower wings, only customised Tomhawk Missiles and possibly the nerdy Jundroo Jundroo Torpedoes) - Jundroo torpedoes work on slow WW2 style dive-bombers only, not on attack boat models, so I stopped using them. Maybe Jundroo will learn from it's mistakes on weaponry, maybe not. @MI

Just double-checked, the USS Santa Fe is based on the Seawolf class body, without tower wings. Is this what you are suggesting? @MI

Thx, I've not read that book, but yes it involves a nuclear powered US submarine. This build was to merely to prove to @SledDriver that Jundroo water-based models can also actually fly, with TLC care at flight controls, yes they can fly from Murphy to Wright and back again, with primary targets: USS Tiny II and USS Beast. @MI
