This was Northop's prototype for the A-X project, this aircraft went up agianst everyone's favorite the Fairchild-Republic A-10 Warthog, Northop's design realtively conventional except for the fact it used jet engines that were based off helicopter jet engines, and it's resemblance to Sukhoi's Su-25 Frogfoot, besides that it was described to have "fighter like handling" and it could carry up to 16,000lbs of ordinance, though it lost to the A-10 and it was religated to NASA flight testing where it's engines were removed and were mated to a C-8 Buffalo aircraft as part of NASA-Boeing joint Quiet Short-haul Reserach Aircraft
