What could have been the fastest fighter aircraft of the Second Global War, the J9K-5 Hakucho (?? "Swan") (Allied Code Name: Allison) was a short-range interceptor developed in response to the Iosian B-19 Goliath{1}. The J9K-5 was capable of reaching speeds in excess of 820 Kmh (510 MPH) in level flight at altitudes of 6,700 meters and above, far outpacing even the fastest Allied piston engined aircraft. Despite it's fierce speed and outstanding maneuverability, the J9K-5 arrived too late into the war to make a difference, with the first units being delivered to the frontlines a mere 3 days before the war ended.
post war
After the Second Global War, the J9K-5 Hakucho went on to be a defining aircraft in the early years of the Hon-Kain Crisis; a war between Nordenvok and Hon-Kain over the disputed rich greenlands and forests that border the two nations. The J9K's speed still held well into the 1950's as a bomber interceptor due to it's ease of mantinence, quick take off speed, and ability to use makeshift runways. The J9K was eventually replaced by the J9K-5-2 Kaminari tonbo ("Lightning Dragonfly") - a jet powered variation of the J9K-5 in 1958, eventually all but a few J9K-5 fighters were phased out and used as trainer aircraft until the early 1960's.
