"Fire before fear." -Official motto of the LNS Atreides
Lore
Overview
The Atreides-class cruiser serves as Lykania’s premier guided-missile cruiser (CG), designed to lead naval task forces with overwhelming firepower, advanced sensors, and superior electronic warfare capabilities. Acting as the backbone of fleet command and air defense, the Atreides-class is equipped for anti-air, anti-ship, land-attack, and ballistic missile defense missions, ensuring strategic dominance across the seas. Featuring a cutting-edge, low-observable hull and an advanced superstructure, the Atreides-class minimizes its radar signature while maximizing combat effectiveness. Its state-of-the-art battle management systems, integrated sensor networks, and high-capacity vertical launch systems allow it to neutralize threats at extreme ranges, solidifying its role as a force multiplier in Lykania’s naval arsenal.
Background and Development
The Atreides-class Cruiser was the result of the FCG program. The Lykanian Navy was in desperate need of a replacement for their aging fleet of Ticonderoga-class cruisers.. The first submissions arrived in 2004, with the Atreides being one of the lead designs. The design was selected in 2006, with the Navy requesting 20 hulls to be built and in-service by 2030. Initially scheduled for completion in 2014, the first ship was completed 8 months ahead of schedule, in mid-2013. The first Atreides-class cruiser, and lead ship, LNS Atreides, was finally launched in September of 2013, commencing its sea trials in November. To date, 13 of the planned 20 ships have been completed.
Operational History
The first ship in the class, LNS Atreides, first entered service in 2014, a few months after its completion in 2013. To date, none of the 13 ships in the class have seen combat. They were deployed in early 2024 to enforce Lykania’s “Zone of Avoidance” during the USL-UNOS escalation, serving as the eyes and ears of the numerous Carrier Strike Groups deployed to monitor and enforce the regional zone. As the year progresses and more of the ships near completion, the Atreides-class will slowly begin to replace Lykania’s aging Ticonderoga-class Cruisers.
Gameplay
Here’s my second shimp! I gotta say, I went overboard with the part counts and performance cost, but man, was it worth it. The difference in quality is noticeable, definitely an upgrade from the Loki.
