Featured in many movies and video games, it would be most famous on 5 May 1980, the last day of the Iranian Embassy Seige in London. Over the course of five days, a certain tension was rising, one that snapped when one of the terrorists killed one of the 26 hostages. With that, it was decided that immediate action must be done.

The next day, Operation Nimrod proceeded with great publicity. On primetime television during a public holiday, six SAS operators, zip-lined into the embassy and killed five terrorists, captured the sixth, and rescued the remaining 25 hostages unharmed. At their side was the MP5 submachine gun. While the MP5 would serve in many wars before and since, the 1980 Iranian Embassy Seige would be its most notable action.
