A Chinese 7.62mm light machine gun based off the Type 55A/CA-55A battle rifle, it features a longer barrel and a 70-round drum magazine. This particular example was captured by members of the 110th Jungle Reconnaissance Regiment in a skirmish with unidentified Chinese Army units on the Sino-Burmese border. Of particular interest was the ammunition; although dimensionally similar to the Paternian cartridge, has a 20% lower powder charge in order to reduce recoil, improving suitability with the generally smaller stature of the Chinese Army soldier. This has the side effect of having greater practical accuracy over the M25/AR-10 as-issued. The hotter loads used by the Paternian Army will function properly in a Type 55 with proper adjustment of the gas regulator, and cooler loads used by the Chinese Army will properly function in an M11 or M25 with proper adjustment of the gas regulator.
