Sobol So-2 "Vorobey"
The Sobol So-2 "Vorobey" (lit. Sparrow) is a single-engined single-seat biplane fighter designed by Sobol Aviation Company for the Alyaskan Imperial Air Force (AVVS) in 1930. It was designed as the pinnacle of Alyaskan fighter plane technology, being the backbone of the AVVS from 1930 to 1935.
The Vorobey is powered by a 600 hp Krupin 450 liquid-cooled inline engine, which results in the maximum speed of nearly 300 km/h. It is armed with a twin 13 mm AvP-29U machine guns with 300 ammunition each, making a total of 600 ammunition load. As any other biplane, the Vorobey is every maneuverable but lacking in speed. Pilots liked it because it was easy to fly and had a comfortable cockpit. The Vorobey can bring a total of almost 6 50 kg bomb under its lower wings.
Each Vorobey variants were upgraded from the previous version. Most of the upgrades were related to engine performance, armaments, and payload capacity.
