The Vergeltungswaffe I, or V1, was the first cruise missile ever created. It was designed by Nazi Germany during WWII. Hundreds of launch sites were set up in western France, aimed directly at London. The British nicknamed it the "Buzz Bomb", as its pulse jet made a loud buzzing noise during flight.
