According to sources, Angelica class tend to replace the old Kreis der Kreiger class which were in service for 40 years since their commissioning. Angelica class' main purpose is to maximize amphibious assaults. They also have humanitarian support capabilities.
Development
The Königliche Admiralität looked into replacing the 40 year old Kreis der Kreiger classes. Under the Marineorden von 2070, New designs were produced by Naval Architects for the modernization program. The Königliche Admiralität wanted their new LPDs to be tough and survivable in hostile territory as well as full capability of supporting Amphibious Supports.
Some sources indicated that the design for the Angelica class is mostly enlarged versions of Ferry ships presently used by shipping companies in Equestria. They were the most fastest produced design under the Marineorden von 2070 but were not built immediately as the orders were shifted towards the Amphibious Assault Ships.
In Great Country Naval Doctrine, the role of Amphibious Transport Docks doesn't differ from the doctrine of the Seven Continents. they embark, transport, and land elements of a landing force for expeditionary warfare missions.
The minor difference between the Seven Continents and Great Country Amphibious Transport Docks is the speed of their ships. Most of Amphibious Transport Docks in Seven Continents had a top speed of 21 or 22 knots, some even had a top speed of 25 knots. Most Amphibious Transport Docks in Great Country had a top speed of 28 - 32 knots, that's because they act as the armed transport ships of the Invading Element Forces.
