In the XAF Zephyr, the Navy had everything they were looking for.A rugged, name taking Fighter Bomber with good range and even better payload. Yet despite extensive modifications, it could not operate from the Light Carriers it was intended for. The Navy pushed for it anyway, thinking they had the money and green light from the DoD for both the XAF Program and a new, bigger and more capable Aircraft Carrier. Hint: they didn't.
