This was the first design for a jet bomber from Messerschmitt. The four BMW 018 turbojets were mounted under the wings in two pods. This allowed the use of a more conventional tail unit. The landing gear consisted of two large main wheels and a twin nose gear arrangement. The interior bomb bay could hold 4000 kg (8820 lbs) of bombs, and no defensive armament was known to be have fitted.
