History
The Vo-16 was designed as a support aircraft for the Mig-17, but due to its poor avionics, it was quickly relieved. In 1955 and coinciding with the purchase of Dassault Ouragan, Israel decided to acquire the complete lot of Vo-16 through a third country, hiding its final destination. In 1956 the Vo-16 are widely transformed, being able to carry four AA-1 Alkali missiles. For this purpose, a simple target acquisition radar, two DEFA cannons and countermeasures packages against infrared and radar missiles were installed.
