Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-33K
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-33 was a project initially submitted as a proposal for a cheap, light naval fighter for use above the Soviet Navy's small, light carriers. The design was a hastily done amalgamation of 2 pre-existing designs: the MiG-29, and the Izdeliye 33, an already-rejected project for a light, land based fighter from MiG. The nose, fuselage and cockpit were taken from the Mig-29, scaled down, and matched with the intake and wings from the Izdeliye 33 project. This basically gave a single-engined MiG-29, designed from the outset for naval use. This was not lost on the pilots, who appreciated the look of a tried-and-true, reliable workhorse aircraft, but not nearly as much as they appreciated the benefits of the smaller design, such as the acceleration and handling improvements. The naval version was given early conformal fuel tanks to increase range. It was able to mount most standard Russian missiles. This version is seen with 2x Vympel K-13 (NATO name "AA-2 Atoll") on the wingtips, 2x Vympel R-77 (NATO name "AA-12 Adder") on the outer wing pylons, and 2x Vympel R-27 (NATO name "AA-10 Alamo") on the inner wing pylons.
--INSTRUCTIONS--
Action Group 7 for arrestor hook, VTOL for flaps, trim for trim. Be careful when launching the missiles, and enjoy. I recommend setting the trim slightly pushing downwards, as it tends to pull up.
