I was thinking of early jetas and in particular the Gloster Meteor Night Fighter variants. VTOL acts as trim up to 3/10 of the upper half of the slider where afterwards flaps are deployed as additional lift and sort of airbrakes. VTOL should be used to adjust its attitude while in flight, as speed increases it needs less upwards trim. Hopefully you enjoy, thanks.
