M60 Machine Gun
The M60 is an American 7.62mm general purpose machine gun. One of the lighter and more compact designs, it had numerous design issues regarding basic design and long-term durability. However, the good qualities of the weapon; its good handling, mechanical simplicity, and effective operation from a variety of positions earned it praise from Vietnam War veterans. While scorned by later soldiers for its long-term durability issues and largely replaced in US service by the M240, a license-built FN MAG, it remains in use around the world as well as with the United States Navy. It's most notable appearance in popular media is its depiction in the Rambo franchise. The image of a young Sylvester Stallone with a red headband and M60 machine gun, is nothing short of iconic. And probably why every M60 variant since the E3 kept the foregrip.
