The design that would inspire generations of ships to come, the NX-01 and other Warp 5 frame ships were the true, first era of ships of modern starfleet. This lineup would serve the pre-Federation era, with the first ship of the class being designated NX-01 Enterprise, followed by the NX-02 Columbia. This class would eventually be refit following the signing of the Federation charter, where for a short time, all NX Warp 5 variants were grounded, including the NX-01. This ship in particular would become the first ship to be refit and rechristianed the S.S. Enterprise. During this period, a new class of ship capable of Warp 6 would begin to over take the NX Warp 5 series.
