Description

The Type 14 is a single engine light bomber, hence it’s destination as SEL. Aimed to produce a capable bomber while still adhering to the Rules of War as to avoid war crimes. Although it’s contemporaries the HB-1 mounted a bomb load not agreed upon by the War Convention’s Rules of War.
To allow takeoff from poor quality aerodromes, the new technology of the bungee cord flap was implemented. This reduced the takeoff speed from 90-100 mph with full bomb load to down to 60. A bungee cord pulls the flap down when at low speeds, but once the aircraft exceeds 70 mph, the flaps will retract. Many pilots may be caught off guard as the sudden retraction of the flaps caused the lifting ability of the plane to drop drastically until flying over 90 mph. This is most likely due to the lack of an intermediate position for the flaps which were standard on other aircraft such as the Breguet 14. A resolution to this issue is still being found.

Defense positions are found on the dorsal and ventral sections of the plane. I this provides a good arc of fire for both guns which can adequately defend the plane from attack. The eight small bombs, as regulated in the Rules of War, on it’s own may not be impressive, but when flying as a escadrille, squadron, or air group, the offensive and defensive power of the planes combined can defeat the hordes of enemy fighters and the heaviest of entrenched bunkers. It should be noted however, that the Type 14 is not too maneuverable compared to a fighter or scout plane and it’s top speed with our bomb load is only 122 mph. So pilots rely on guns and will power to bring them and their crews home.

To improve morale, pilots and ground crews were permitted to paint fuselage art on the fuselage space below the top wing. Some Escadrilles had themes while others were allowed to paint what ever they wanted. Morale did improve.

Controls

Standard plane controls
Ag1 activates the forward firing gun
Ag2 unlocks and activates the dorsal guns
Ag3 drops all bombs at once
Ag4 unlocks and activate the ventral gun
Ag8 toggles the activation of the flaps. Deactivate 8 if flaps are not required.

If the aircraft has been tamed and is entering a spin, release all bombs using Ag3, reactive automatic flaps with Ag8 and try to push the nose down. Use rudder when applicable.

The guns are operated by the camera view. Make sure not to the shoot the tail off!

Ending notes

I worked four days on this plane. Still not perfect, but what is? The plane is inspired by the Bréguet 14 bomber and Airco DH 9A from World War 1. I like the plane turned out. It’s really fun to shoot down targets with the gunners.
