The Freebooter was the first USS fighter. Named after the WW2-Era F4U Corsair, this floatplane's performance is on par with land-based counterparts thanks to two factors: the first is an streamlined pusher engine mounting and the second consists of streamlined float struts. These are comparatively rare because their shape make them weak for their weight, but here, the lower drag was seen as worthwhile in this case. Another reason for the pusher arrangement, as the aircraft shows, is to add more armaments to the Freebooter due to experience with Eastern Seaboard large aircraft.
