HISTORY

The Bell AH-1 Cobra is an attack helicopter manufactured by the American company Bell Helicopters. It was designed with the engine and virtually the same technical capabilities as the UH-1 Iroquois. The AH-1 is also called the HueyCobra or Snake. The AH-1 became the backbone of the US Army's fleet of attack helicopters, until in the late 1980s it was replaced by the more modern AH-64 Apache. However, many of these aircraft are still in active service in several countries. The SuperCobra, an updated version, remains in service with the US Marine Corps (USMC) as its primary interceptor helicopter. Other government departments also use AH-1, such as the Forest Service, for firefighting and patrols.
