The EA-6B "Skull" is a shipborne electronic warfare aircraft developed by Grumman Corporation of the United States. Its main task is to interfere with the enemy's radar and communications systems and protect the fleet surface ships and other combat aircraft. The EA-6B Rangers electronic warfare aircraft was developed to meet the requirements of the US Navy's electronic countermeasure escort aircraft. It was able to protect U.S. naval ships and aircraft during the performance of attacks and surveillance missions due to the destruction of enemy radar and communications devices. The second mission includes electronic surveillance, anti-ship missile defense, and electronic anti-radar training for ground and air radar operators. After the US military's EF-111 "Raven" electronic warfare aircraft was retired in 1995, the EA-6B became the only electronic warfare aircraft of the U.S. Department of Defense. The U.S. military established five corresponding new combat squadrons, four of which were dedicated to supporting the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary forces. The EA-6B is a modified version of the EA-6A electronic fighter. It is considered to be an indispensable part of the aircraft carrier wing operation.
