M4A3E4 Sherman (Kelly's Heroes)

All for the love of sunshine.

"It’s a mother beautiful bridge! And it’s going to be there.” –Oddball

All for the love of sunshine!

=NOTE1: Requires the mouse tank control mod to work, which can be found here:

https://www.simpleplanes.com/Mods/View/774428/Tankguncontrol

=NOTE2: Does flip quite easily upon spawning in. If this happens, just traverse your turret to the right or left, and use the gun to flip yourself upright.

DESC:

An M4A3 Sherman, retrofitted with the 76mm Gun M1. Used in the 1975 film “Kelly’s Heroes”, crewed by the nut of a tanker, Sergeant ‘Oddball’.

Built in ten days, starting on June 23rd, the anniversary of the release of the film, to now. Moving wheels and gears. Two .30 cals and one roof mounted .50 cal + a loudspeaker. Negative waves not included.

Woof woof.

That’s my other dog imitation.

CONTROLS:

WASD controls for movement of the tank.

AG1 + TRIM and VTOL controls for the ball mounted hull .30 cal M1919 (1500 rounds).

AG2+ TRIM and VTOL controls for the coaxial .30 caliber M1919 (1500 rounds), and the 76mm gun, which has 25x Boom 25 shells ready for firing.
Watch your distance however, these things are quite explosive.

AG3+ TRIM and VTOL controls for the roof mounted .50 cal M2 Browning with 300 bullets in the belt. Careful not to shoot your own turret, you nut.

AG8 to toggle the lights and engine on/off. Try to keep your speed, at maximum, to 28 miles per hour.

Made using reference pictures. The paint colors are from the film itself, and I copied the colors from a color picker, and used WNP78's Colour Editor mod to put them in.

All for the love of sunshine.

FIRE

Everything, save for the lack of luggage on the tank, is as accurate as I could make it. Everything from the rear engine grill, to the amount of spoked roadwheels to solid roadwheels, I did the best I could.

Now, go on, try to rob a bank for 16 million dollars with this thing!

You'll find yourself winning a war instead.

Stay lucky, you nut.

@Adlerkrieg Sory for speaking on your behalf... I try not too do that.. :-/

@Flash0of0green No, I do, it's just the tedium of angling all those edges in a turret ring; and if the angle is too big, or too small, or the block itself isn't the correct length, it just doesn't work. So, it's a personal choice.

@Othawne that's good for you. It's nice you found a way to do that. However Adlerkrieg dosen't want to try it.

@Flash0of0green That's not true, I Make my turret rings hollow, Usually as realistic as i can get them.

I'm currently working on a M4A3 pacific Marines tank. Looking at your tank gave me more inspiration.

Now all we need's a bank wall with a killroy and 'Up Yours Baby' on it.

@Flash0of0green Decided, then. The turret will be separate from the hull, and dividing it from the hull will be just a fuselage inlet piece.

@Adlerkrieg in most cases I would go with sacrifice detail for performance do to the fact that I and many others have PC that can just barely run this game.

    6.4 years ago
  • Profile image

@Flash0of0green Exactly. On top of that, it is extremely hard to make a perfect circle with this method, and would take me literal days of angling, and nudging the parts into place.

Plus, making a ring using fuselage parts would add even more to the extensive part count my hull already has. Unlike other people, I built the tank suspension, tracks, and running gear entirely from scratch instead of using wheels. So, that is a dilemma over sacrificing quality over performance.

@Othawne not if you want to make it hollow and have a proper inside.

@Adlerkrieg ^^ Also about the turret thing you're speaking of above, You can make a turret ring using fuselage pieces.

    6.4 years ago
  • Profile image

@Flash0of0green And, I may...but I am working on a German tank right now with an interior for the crew. Though I have a dilemma, since SP doesn't have any ring pieces with holes in them, it means I'm going to have to make the turret entirely separate, unless someone else has a solution.

Traverse gun to the right. Rock wall.

Traverse gun to the left. Tree.

@Adlerkrieg but what are your thoughts about trying to make a M24 Chaffee?

Big gun isn't always the answer.

    6.4 years ago
  • Profile image

@Flash0of0green Nope. The Jumbo is vastly different. As stated, this is just an M4A3 upgraded with the 76mm lightweight gun seen on the Hellcat. Look it up if you don't believe me. The Danish and Yugoslavs had them.

@Adlerkrieg I think this is still considered a Sherman jumbo kuz it's an upgraded M4A3E2. Also any thoughts about trying to make a M24 Chaffee?
