Description:
The Majungasaurus Crenatissimus (Mahajanga lizard) was a small theropod dinosaur non-avian that lived in the late Cretaceous in the Maastrichtian 70 to 66 million years ago in Madagascar, becoming extinct at the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event. It weighed about 1 ton, it's bite force is unknow but it is believed to be powerful for it's size. There is fossil evidence that these dinosaurs committed cannibalism, however, it is not known if this behavior was common or if it occurred when their prey was scarce.

Evolution:
Majungasaurus belongs to the Abelisauridae family, this family includes other dinosaurs such as Carnotaurus and Rajasaurus, Abelisaurids developed from ancestors of Ceratosaurs, but the Abelisaurids didn't evolve directly from the Ceratosaurids, rather, they are a unique and distinct evolutionary branch that comes from the same clade.

Interesting/Fun Facts:
- Despite its small size compared to other theropods such as Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus, it was the apex predator of its area.
- Majungasaurus was slow for it's size, but it's prey was even slower
- Majungasaurus required more brute force than speed to hunt its prey like Rapetosaurus
- Majungasaurus and the rest of Abelisaurids had small arms, theories suggest that the Abelisaurids did not need them and became smaller with evolution. On the other hand, it is believed that the small arms served to attract the opposite sex, but these are just theories and the real reason is not yet known.
- At first in 1896, Majungasaurus was named Megalosaurus Crenatissimus, a few years later, it was re-named as Dryptosaurus, until in 1955 it was re-named to Majungasaurus Crenatissimus.
- In 1979, they found a supposed new species of Pachycephalosaur, naming it Majungatholus atopus, because they thought a part of the skull was a dome. but some time later they realized that Majungatholus and Majungasaurus were the same animal, and Majungasaurus being the oldest name, Majungatholus was left as invalid.
