My made up description of this aircraft

The F-18-R was built to compete with the russian su-33.
The upgrades to the F-18 were made to be better than the su-33 in every way
By high AOA at low speeds as well as advanced flight controls. this meant it could easily kill a su-33 in a dogfight in testing. the aircraft was approved by congress. and entered service in 2016. 3,000 where made before funding was cut.
Also The R in WASP-R is Russian.
