When notified that the F-19 would be eligible for one of the many airshows in the United States, the team was given the go-ahead to introduce Highly Maneuverable Aircraft Technology (HiMAT) for one of the F-19Bs currently in operation. The aircraft was recalled to the factory and stripped of everything that wasn't necessary to make the aircraft as light as possible. This included removal of weapons and some of the avionics. The F-19B (HiMAT) as it was called, was fitted with a new advanced flight management computer (FMC) that could process 50 times more information and data compared to the standard FMC. The wings were scrapped and remade from a blend of carbon fibre and titanium to decrease weight while increasing G loads of the aircraft. The fuselage was optimised to store even more fuel due to the new fittings that had to be applied. The new fittings were in fact a brand new VTOL engine below the two J-50s and Reaction Control Nozzles (RCN) that push the aircraft along its vertical axis that the pilot could activate and deactivate manually. Not only did these RCNs allow the aircraft to generate incredible Gs in turns, but they also allowed the aircraft to execute any kind of landing approach the pilot could think of. One test pilot even came in upside down before flipping right side up just before touching down. The RCNs gave pilots a ridiculous amount of control over the aircraft at low speeds. An application was sent to implement this feature on all currently operational F-19Bs but was denied due to the inefficiency of fuel usage by the RCNs.
