K Class Torpedo Boat Destroyer
K Class is a group of 8 Torpedo Boat Destroyers built by the Shaterlot Navy in 1805-1807. They were one of the early Torpedo Boat Destroyers built during the early stages of 1800s.
History
The success of Torpedo Boats increased its influence to other countries, thus Torpedo Boats are getting larger and larger at the time. Shaterlot Naval Intelligence was one of the nations to develop such early Vessels. They needed a warship that is similar in speed and maneuverability of a Torpedo Boat. This lead to the project K.
Service History
The first ships, K-01-05, was launched in 1805 and served in the Main Fleet. There they screened heavier Armored and slower Vessels such as Ironclads, they also served as Escorts for trading type ships. The first 5 performed very well on what they intended to be assigned role they got, Their speed and maneuverability was a success for the next line of Torpedo Boat Destroyers. The only problem the K Class suffered was it's too tall and was unstable in rough seas. In that case, K-06 was lost at sea during the Hurricane Howard were she lost balanced while escorting 5 merchant ships and the Protected Cruiser Vasa Aurora. This issue was fixed in the later L Class which was built 5 years later. They saw active service during the 1st War of Coalitions. The Ships served for 10 years and retired between 1815 and 1823. Only K-04 was preserved.
