Piston Power - V 4 piston twin engine test plane

10.3k MethaManAerospace  7.4 years ago
Auto Credit Based on MethaManAerospace's - - - - - test plane

The final V 4 is here: the V 4 X 2 with a vibration absorbing mount.
with 45 degrees of bank on the cylinder's this is a proper, balanced V4. my final one for now as I will experiment with V 6, V 12 and turbochargers.

Here is a new test bed for twin engine aircraft only evolved from the previous ones.

These engines produce less vibration and don't have to counter rotate on multiple engine aircraft. (you might still want roll trim)

controls:
- VTOL = prop pitch (slide up between the bottom 2 notches is optimal)

To take off:
- put VTOL between the bottom 2 notches
- throttle gradually to 70% (if the engines blow up, you are doing it too fast)
- When you reach 90 mph, full throttle
- At 100 mph lift off
stall speed = 78 mph

/!\ These engines can start spinning in reversed direction and are not to be mirrored to the other side of the aircraft.

Included is one of the engines and the 4 sections that I used to make this engine. these are good for any inline or V engine using a 45 degree bank on the cylinders, or even radial! go ahead! go crazy! These parts are free to use by anyone and if you make something interesting, tag me in, I'd like to see it!

Good, because I am also working hard on the Do 335 (pfeil) from you and made it fully piston! It looks extra nice and fly a bit...not well...
But yeah. I pulled it together.

Actually, further testing reveal the fact that this engine is very unreliable...

@CDRxavier I agree, the design needs to be reviewed... These were a series of really easy to build and modulate engines. For dem vibes, I have no idea how to solve the problem, maybe you can try and fix it?

@MethaManAircraft I do love the size. Compact.
But it would have to be improved if I was to use it on my boat.

I noticed that there are EXTREME vibration on this one---why?

@Visify I fixed the problem with the little rod connecting the2 sides of the crank shaft in the cylinder sections. This means that the crank shaft is one solid axle from start to finish unlike the previous one I shared to you as unlisted. Go ahead and use the sections provided the ones to the left in the image are a start, the other two are to be used in a balanced way to create the bulk of the engine.

@MethaManAircraft I'm surprised someone actually got a V-engine to work, that's impressive. I'll be looking into your engines some more.
