Panzerjäger-IV “Nashorn”
The Nashorn was a World War II tank destroyer developed by Nazi Germany based on the hybrid hull of the Panzer III/IV, assigned the model number Sd.Kfz.164. The Rhino's main gun, the KwK-43, was one of the most effective tank guns of the Great War, and its Pzgr. 40/43 tungsten carbide-cored armour was capable of penetrating through 190mm rolled homogeneous armour at angles up to 1,000 metres away. Its Pzgr. 40/43 tungsten carbide core could penetrate 190mm of rolled homogeneous armour at an angle of 30° at a distance of 1,000 metres, and the power of the main gun enabled the Rhinoceros Tank Destroyer to strike at enemy tanks out of range of the tank's guns. The Rhino made its debut at the Battle of Kursk and performed well. Its long-range artillery capability offset its weak armour, excessive gun exposure, and over-height exposure to the flat terrain of the Russian steppe. Like other German armoured vehicles mounting the Pak 43 / KwK 43 tank gun, the Rhino Tank Destroyer could penetrate the frontal armour of any Allied tank. The Rhino was reported in early 1945 to be able to penetrate the Soviet IS-2 Stalin Heavy Tank from 4,600 metres, and was one of the few German tanks to have the honour of penetrating the American M26 Pershing, which only saw action in very small numbers a few months before the end of the fighting in Europe.
