The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine multirole fighter developed by the American company General Dynamics in the 1970s for the United States Air Force; it entered service in 1978. Originally designed as a light fighter in accordance with daytime visual flight rules, it evolved into an outstanding multi-role fighter.

In 1993 the Fighting Falcon changed manufacturers, since that year General Dynamics sold its aircraft production company to the Lockheed company, which today is Lockheed Martinafter its 1995 merger with Martin Marietta. Although no longer built for the US Air Force, production is still active for export.
