F-88 Rapier
The F-88 Rapier is the first plane of my 'Alternate Reality Cold War' series of fighter jets. For those who are unaware the design of this aircraft is heavily inspired off the F-86 Sabre, the American subsonic jet fighter that ruled the skies over Korea. The Rapier is what I would call maneuverable for its airframe but it is not as fast as its competitor the MIG-16. It contains an armament of two wing guns that act as the cannons that would be mounted to the nose of the F-86. If you'd like to suggest any future series themes or you have a tip for plane creation please leave your suggestions in the comments below. I hope you enjoy the F-88. Fly safely and as always, have fun!!
Back-story: The Soviets have officially started the arms race that would be known as the Cold War. They start with the mass production of MIG fighters, specifically, MIG-16's. This comes as a threat to the U.S as they start to gain air superiority over Korea. In retaliation, the U.S build the F-88. Built with the MIG airframe in mind the design was improved with low mount swept wings and a longer fuselage, increasing range. Only years after its introduction the F-88 took the skies of Korea and scared the soviets back to the drawing boards.
